Why a Japan number, and why Tokyo

Japan is one of the largest consumer markets in the world, and most of its business and online life runs on a Japanese phone number. Marketplaces, delivery services, booking sites and many Japanese apps ask for a +81 number at sign-up, and some deliver codes only to Japanese mobile ranges. A Japan virtual number lets you open and keep those accounts from abroad.

Tokyo matters more than anywhere else. The capital holds the head offices of most companies you will deal with, and a Tokyo 03 number on your website or business card tells a Japanese customer or partner that you are reachable locally. Osaka 06 numbers do the same for the Kansai region. Both are available as long-term rentals, and the number stays the same for as long as you hold it.

Mobile, local or VoIP: which Japan number to rent

Choose a mobile number if the number will go on WhatsApp, Telegram or any app that checks the carrier type before sending a verification code. Japanese mobile numbers start with 070, 080 or 090 and sit on real carrier ranges. Some Japanese apps run stricter checks than their US counterparts, so tell us which app matters when you order and we will say honestly whether it works.

Choose a Tokyo 03 or Osaka 06 local number if customers in Japan should see a familiar city code: a business presence, a Japanese contact number for a listing, or a line for customers who prefer to call. Choose a VoIP number for a support desk or an internal line where the carrier type does not matter and you mostly make and take calls over the internet.

LINE is the messaging app most people in Japan use day to day, and it asks for a phone number at registration. We do not promise that it accepts any given number, so ask us first if LINE is the reason you want one.

What your Japan virtual number can do

Receive unlimited inbound SMS in your dashboard or forwarded to your email, including verification codes from Japanese sites and apps. Make and receive calls from the app on any device, with the +81 number as your caller ID, or forward calls to the mobile phone you already carry in any country. Register a mobile number on WhatsApp Business to serve Japanese customers, or on Telegram.

The number stays yours for as long as the rental is active. We do not recycle Japanese numbers between customers mid-term, so accounts you attach to a Tokyo number keep working month after month, and a yearly term renews on the same number.

Pricing and terms for Japan numbers

Japan virtual numbers start at $19.99 a month on a monthly term. Japanese numbers are in higher demand and priced accordingly, and mobile numbers cost more than VoIP and local numbers because supply on verified mobile ranges is tighter. A three-month term is 10% off and a twelve-month term is 25% off.

There are no setup fees and no contract beyond the term you choose. Inbound SMS is included; outbound calls and SMS are billed per use at Japanese rates. Cancel at the end of any term, free of charge. Tokyo 03 and Osaka 06 stock is confirmed by email before you pay.

Japan & Tokyo virtual numbers, answered

The questions we get about Japan numbers before people order.

Can I get a Tokyo 03 number specifically?
Yes. Ask for Tokyo when you order and we provision a number on the 03 area code where stock allows. Osaka 06 is available the same way. If you need a different city, tell us and we will check; if we cannot get it, we say so before you pay rather than substitute a number from somewhere else.
Will a Japan virtual number work for verification on Japanese apps?
Usually, with a mobile number. Most Japanese services send an SMS code to any Japanese mobile range. A few run stricter checks or ask for extra identity steps, and we cannot promise acceptance by any specific app or bank. Tell us which service matters before you order and we will say honestly whether our Japan mobile numbers have worked for it.
Does a Japan number work with LINE?
LINE asks for a phone number at registration and sends an SMS or voice code to it, which our numbers can receive. We do not promise that LINE accepts a given number, because its checks change and vary by number range. If LINE is the main reason you want the number, say so when you order and we will tell you the current picture.
Do I need a Japanese address or ID?
You need an email address and a payment method. We do not require a Japanese address. Where the carrier behind a particular number asks for the user's name or company before releasing it, we tell you before you pay and collect it by email, and we never ask for more than the carrier needs.
