VoIP virtual numbers
Calls and SMS over the internet, from a laptop, a desk phone or the mobile app. VoIP numbers are our cheapest number type and the right choice for a business line, a support desk or a number you forward to your team.
Cheapest number type
VoIP ranges are plentiful, so VoIP numbers are the lowest-priced numbers we rent, from $9.99 a month in the USA, UK and Canada. Inbound SMS is unlimited and included.
Any device, anywhere
Answer on a laptop in London, a mobile in Lagos or a desk phone in the office. The number is not tied to hardware, so your team can be anywhere with an internet connection.
Call forwarding built in
Forward calls to any phone in any country, ring several phones in turn or at once, and send unanswered calls to a voicemail that lands in the shared inbox.
Your number as caller ID
Outbound calls and SMS show the VoIP number, not the mobile you dialled from. Customers call back on the business line, not on a staff member's personal phone.
Built for business lines
Support desks, sales lines, appointment reminders and order updates all run well on VoIP. Share the inbox with the team and keep every SMS and voicemail in one place.
Not for WhatsApp
WhatsApp and some verification pages look up the carrier type and refuse VoIP ranges. If the number must register on WhatsApp or pass app checks, rent a mobile number instead.
How a VoIP virtual number works
A VoIP number is a real phone number on a range registered for voice over IP. Calls and SMS to it are handed from the carrier to our platform and delivered to you over the internet: the web dashboard, the mobile app, or forwarded to an ordinary phone. Outbound calls go the other way, with the VoIP number as caller ID. There is no SIM and no hardware to buy, and the number works wherever you have a connection.
Because VoIP ranges are not scarce, these are the cheapest numbers to rent. They are also the type most phone systems and business tools expect, which makes them the natural choice for a company line.
What VoIP numbers are best for
A support desk: put the number on your website, ring the agents on duty, and let voicemails and SMS land in the shared inbox. A sales line per market: a +1 number for US prospects and a +44 number for British ones, each forwarded to the rep who owns it. A main company number for a remote team, forwarded to whoever is online. Appointment reminders and order updates sent by SMS from a number customers recognise. A second line on your own mobile, so work calls stay separate from personal ones.
In short, anywhere the job is calling and texting people, and no app is going to inspect the number's type.
When to pick mobile instead of VoIP
Be honest with yourself about what the number has to do. WhatsApp refuses most VoIP ranges, Telegram and other messaging apps often do, and a growing number of sign-up pages run a carrier-type lookup and reject VoIP before sending the code. If any of those is on your list, rent a mobile number: it costs a few dollars more a month and reports as mobile. Many businesses rent both, a VoIP number for the phone line and a mobile number for WhatsApp Business, delivered to the same dashboard. For a city area code, rent a local number.
VoIP pricing and terms
VoIP numbers start at $9.99 a month in the USA, UK and Canada and from $12.99 in most other countries, on monthly, three-month and yearly terms. Inbound SMS is unlimited; calls and outbound SMS are billed per use at local rates, which is usually far cheaper than an international mobile plan. No setup fees, no contract, and cancelling at the end of a term is free. Ten or more numbers on one account qualify for volume pricing.
